After the invention of basketball, universities started adding basketball to their physical education. They later began hosting pubic games for people to watch. The first university to host a Basketball game was Springfield College in Massachusetts. Later on other colleges began taking in basketball as a P.E sport to be taught, because they thought it was the most reasonable sport to be played with students who weren't as so strong as the others. When local teams began to form, they began holding up matches with other cities for a winning amount of money. These were called “Barnstormers”. Another way basketball generated income was from people placing wagers on teams from the games. In many ways, basketball spread nationally and worldwide through games and matches helping people exercise , and entertain them.
